Menlyn Boutique Hotel experience

A lovely and spacious room inside the hotel.

A scrumptious breakfast enjoyed at the hotel.
TTA secretary, Sithembile was invited to experience an evening at the 5 star Menlyn Boutique Hotel she shares her experience on her visit here: "I'm literally still in awe of how beautiful and tranquil the hotel is. From the first encounter on arrival, one receives a warm and welcoming smile from the staff, to the beautiful sculptural artworks and the garden and tree landscape architecturally designed as one passes through leading to the room. My jaw literally fell to the floor (I had the room by the balcony, the view was spectacular) only to find a welcome note from the GM and assistant GM welcoming you to their premise with chocolate next to it, this created that homely touch that any guest would appreciate. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and well insulated with comfortable beds and fitting interior decor that blends in with the overall theme of the place. The next morning I devoured on a well-presented, delicious breakfast at the exquisite Black Bamboo Restaurant! This was such a treat, I would like to extend a huge thank you to the General Manager, Eluan Rabe and Assistance General Manager, Romney Soar for the experience, the hotel is definitely worth its 5 star status!"

Airbnb presents to the TTA Guest house chapter members

The Guesthouse chapter had a very successful meeting at the lovely Montpellier Guesthouse. An Airbnb super host and consultant shared some amazing insight and tips with us and within a few days some of our members already showed great results in terms of increased bookings. We discussed our exciting projects for the rest of the year and of course these meetings are never concluded without tea, cake and wonderful friendships being forged. The next chapter meeting is scheduled for November and we are hoping to secure a Knightsbridge consultant for some insight into the booking system that most of us use.

NDT releases the State of Tourism Report

The Department of Tourism has released the 2015/16 State of Tourism report to inform government and industry decision makers and businesses about the sector's performance. The report provides a holistic view of the environment that the sector operates in whilst taking into account the challenges and opportunities associated with external factors in the country.

The State of Tourism Report was compiled using supply and demand tourism related statistics. The supply side indicators focus on key tourism related products, which include, amongst others, the performance of the hotel industry, air travel and meetings industry. The demand performance provides an analysis of South Africa's international and domestic tourism markets with specific focus on travel volumes, tourist demographics, purpose of visit, seasonality and spending patterns. Secondary data was used for the development of this report.

Government continues to appreciate tourism as a sector that creates a positive image of the country, contributes to poverty alleviation through job creation, and encourages entrepreneurship and promotion of social cohesion.
