The Tshwane Tourism Association, together with 6 participating members, was amongst the 298 exhibitors that participated at Meetings Africa 2017. The trade show lived up to its title as the Business Lekgotla of Tourism Business, with feedback from most participating members being that the show was worthwhile and that valuable sales leads were generated.

In addition to its own stand the TTA also had a space on the City of Tshwane stand and on the GTA stand and we thank our government partners for this opportunity which allowed us to market members' products from a number of interlinked touch points alongside each other at the exhibition.
The TTA has sent out a leads list from Meetings Africa to members and members can request the contact details for the hot leads from the list that they wish to pursue directly from the TTA office on email@example.com.
Feedback from some of the visitor's to the show was that their experience of Tshwane products at the show was slightly confusing due to the city's products being scattered all over the hall on different stands, the TTA is dedicated to overcoming this and we hope to see all products located in Tshwane sharing a common space at trade shows in the future in order to present a united and impressive front, rather than a fragmented one, when it comes to marketing the city.
The TTA also recently exhibited at the City of Tshwane Mayoral Summit and participated in the tourism panel as part of the congress program.

In the Medium Stand category for The Green Stand Award at Meetings Africa 2017, the CSIR International Convention Centre gladly received the award for most green stand in the medium size stand category.
The purpose for The Green Stand Awards is to encourage all exhibitors to get a closer look on how their designed stands are built and whether the stand can be utilized again. Modular reusable units and upcycled material such as wood and the incorporation of trees were all considered in the entries. The CSIR ICC stand used energy-efficient lights and minimum print material. Congratulations CSIR ICC!
Tshwane products are encouraged to enter the Lilizela Tourism Awards 2017. Tshwane has plenty to offer and over the years the city has never disappointed! The Lilizela Tourism Awards are an initiative of the National Department of Tourism and are spearheaded by South African Tourism.
South African Tourism Chief Executive Officer Mr Sisa Ntshona said: "The criteria for the awards are constantly being refined, through ongoing consultation and feedback surveys, to ensure that hospitality establishments, venues, service providers and tourism attractions meet industry and traveller requirements. Because of the annual review that will follow each awards ceremony, entries will open in March from this year onwards."
Ntshona said that as a result of the most recent review, sustainability and contribution to inclusive growth have become important considerations in the adjudication process. – Source www.lilizela.co.za

The Broadway Hit Musical, is a musical experience with songs performed in the tradition of Mbaqanga, fused with jazz, rhythm and blues and gospel. This proudly South African musical, set during the 1976 uprisings in Soweto deals with the radicalisation of a young school girl who becomes embroiled in the riots and is tortured by the South African Police. The musical is set in the Morris Isaacson High School against the backdrop of students revolting against Afrikaans being used as a medium of instruction. It will be a pleasure to present this work again after we resurrected the original version in 2004 when we celebrated ten years of democracy in South Africa
This show has returned to stage with a new lead actress called Noxolo Dlamini, who is filling the shoes of the former Sarafina, Leleti Khumalo. The 23 year old studied holds a B.A. in Dramatic Arts from the University of Pretoria. She has recently claimed headlines for the lead role she landed.
One of this country's most iconic symbols of the struggle for social and political freedom and justice, Sarafina! Was conceived and directed by Mbongeni Ngema, who also wrote the book, music and lyrics with additional songs by Hugh Masekela. The year 2016 marked 30 years of Sarafina and 40 years of the Soweto student Uprisings. The youth is being encouraged to come and be part of the revival of Sarafina.
Sarafina will continue to play live at State Theatre until 20 May. Daily show schedule is available on computicket with prices starting from R100 to R180.
