Another international award on the way?

Menlyn Boutique Hotel was recently shortlisted in the 2016 Haute Grandeur Global Hotel Awards.

Lilizela – be a winner

South Africa Tourism has announced that entries for the 2016 Lilizela Tourism Awards will open on 1 March and will close on the 31st May 2016.

These Awards recognise the reward tourism players and businesses who work passionately and with pride to offer world class products and services in contributing growing South Africa's global destination competitiveness.

Following a successful three years of the Lilizela Tourism Awards programme, South African Tourism embarked on a review of the programme. The objective of the review was to understand from entrants and industry at large how satisfied they are with the current programme and is any chances are suggested. Make a difference

The TTA nominated charity, Child Welfare Tshwane, is hosting a Golf Day on 1 April 2016 and a Braveheart sleep out challenge on 10 June 2016. The Loadshedding Golf will be held at the Wingate Park Country Club, and includes four glow balls and a prize giving dinner. The Braveheart sleep out challenges you to sleep outside on a cold winter's night to make a difference to the lives of children in Tshwane.

Sheraton Pretoria Hotel appoints Wynand Koekemoer, Assistant Director of Sales

Wynand Koekemoer, previously at the Protea Hotel Fire and Ice! Menlyn, has been appointed Assistant Director of Sales at the Sheraton Pretoria Hotel.

His career started at the age of 18 as an hotelier student at the Capital Hotel School. After graduating he later moved on to work as a hospitality intern at the Ocean Reef Club in the United States of America. Having grown in stance and passion Wynand moved back to South Africa and worked his way through the ranks at the Sheraton Pretoria Hotel by starting as a Guest Service Agent. From humble beginnings Wynand established his career path in the sales department at the Sheraton Hotel and moved to join Protea Hotels. Being part of the Marriott International merger with the Protea Brand he gained wealth of knowledge and respect for the industry by being part of the opening of the new Fire and Ice!

Sheraton Hotel is pleased to welcome Wynand Koekemoer back to a place he now calls home.

Sheraton Pretoria Hotel appoints Alexandre Coupy as Executive Chef

Alexandre Coupy, previously at the Royal Livingstone Hotel in Zambia, has been appointed Executive Chef at the Sheraton Pretoria Hotel.

Alexandre Coupy simply delivers tastes that will satisfy your every craving through his culinary experience, originality and love of good food. He has served diligently at world-famous hotels and restaurants in countries like France, Spain and the United Kingdom, gaining extensive culinary knowledge.

His career started at the tender age of 15 as an apprentice under the famous chef Jean-Marie Amat at the two-star Michelin Restaurant, the Saint James at Bouillac. He later moved on to work with three-star Michelin chefs like Pierre Koffman and Alain Ducasse before coming to Africa. Having grown in stance and passion since, Coupy's philosophy is simple – guest satisfaction. He always strives to provide a wide selection of foods and ingredients so that it meets all guests' taste and preference.

Students seeking internships

Thandi Mkhalipe is currently studying for the Diploma: City & Guilds Combination Programme in Culinary Arts at Capsicum. She currently is in her 1st Semester - Food Preparation and Cooking (February to June 2016 - theory and practical and November 2016 - City & Guilds examination). From July to October 2016 she would need to find industry placement at a relevant hospitality establishment. As she is enrolled for a combination programme, Thandi will be starting her 2nd Semester with the Patisserie component (February to June 2017 - theory and practical and November 2017 - City & Guilds examination). From July to October 2017 she would need to find industry placement at a relevant hospitality establishment. Please contact Sithembile if you would like to offer Thandi an internship.
