The Tshwane Open, an initiative by the council to promote tourism, stimulate job creation, encourage business investment and help create a legacy for the City of Tshwane, is fast approaching. The tournament once again takes place at the Pretoria Country Club from 11 – 14 February 2016.
Herewith a glance at the 2015 Tshwane Open Highlights:
Pretoria Country Club hosted a very successful 2015 Tshwane Open. Various European Tour players quoted the golf course as being the best "new addition golf course" to the European Tour schedule during the last decade. Quite an accolade coming from some of the best players in the world. Another icon in the golf industry and commentator at the tournament, Dayle Hayes, said the Tshwane Open was the best tournament hosted in 2015 on the Sunshine Tour, comments the city can be proud of.
Although the 6245 meter layout is short in length compared to most courses on both the European and Sunshine Tours, this traditional Parklands layout can be as challenging as any course in the world, if set up correctly. Many people predicted the winning score during last year's Tshwane Open at more than 25 under, however when the 18th and 4th were changed to Par 4's and the greens were revved up a notch to more than 10 on the stimpmeter, this old lady showed her teeth. Darren Clark for one fell in love with the golf course and said that the well positioned bunkers together with the defined fairways provides a great platform from which championship golf can be played. Recently the European Tour released their 18 toughest golf holes on Tour for the 2015 season. Pretoria Country Club's 4th hole, which also played as a par 4 during the Tshwane Open, ranked 5th toughest hole on the European Tour. At 511 yards, the stroke average during the four tournament rounds was 4,49. Twenty-nine birdies were recorded with 191 bogeys or worse. The highest score recorded on this hole during the tournament was an 8 by Rhys Enoch. The media had the following to stay about the 4th:
"Well in excess of 500 yards with a vicious right to left dogleg to deal with, the fourth hole at Pretoria CC is a brute. Bearing in mind someone like Lucas Bjerregaard – one of the longest hitters on Tour – was two over par on this hole back in March, you quickly get a sense at just how tough it really is".
One of the major benefits a tournament of this magnitude offers, is the extensive media coverage that is generated throughout the world. The images of Pretoria Country Club and the city at large go out to millions of households across the globe which in return does not only serve as a great marketing tool to the world, but will also attract more local visitors. Herewith some of the statistics regarding the media coverage:
Combined Household Reach: 428,686,250
Total Number of Broadcasters: 38
Total Number of Broadcasts: 1,254
Cumulative Global Broadcast Hours: 2,707:13
Cumulative Global Live Broadcast Hours: 820:51
