Red Bull X Fighters is coming to Tshwane!

Regular readers of the TTA newsletter will know that the TTA Board was instrumental in bringing together all the parties required to realise the vision of hosting Red Bull X Fighters in Tshwane.

The first meetings to coordinate a bid to host this event were held in 2010. The bid was successful and, this year, on 7 September 2013, the world's best freestyle motocross athletes will descend on Tshwane, South Africa for the last stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour.

Local competitor Nick de Wit (see photo on the right) is in full preparation mode for the event at the esteemed icon of South Africa's government, The Union Buildings. The tour is the world's most prestigious and challenging freestyle motocross competition and this is the first time it visits South Africa.

De Wit has previously competed in Red Bull X-Fighters Tour stops in Madrid and Egypt and is excited about finally having a chance to compete in the event on his home soil.

"We've been waiting a long time for this! I definitely think that the perfect event location has been chosen. It's a pretty big deal that we get to show the country what freestyle motocross is about in front of a building with such history. "

Nomasonto Ndlovu, Strategic Executive Director for Communication, Marketing and Events for the City of Tshwane says the city is honored to be the South African host to this world spectacular of freestyle motocross: "Hosting this event at the feet of the Union Buildings is very special for Tshwane as this magnificent icon is celebrating its centennial this year," she says. "It is here where the democracy of our country was ushered in with the inauguration of former President Nelson Mandela in 1994."

As a lead up to the main event, Red Bull is encouraging talented young South Africans to design the helmet Nick de Wit will wear at the event. Head over to redbull.co.za/designnickslid for more information.

Tickets are now available at www.redbullxfighters.com with ticket prices ranging between R250 and R450.

With the Mexico City, Dubai, Glen Helen and Osaka stops already in the bag the series is anyone's at the moment.

Remaining Tour stop Schedule 2013: July 19, Madrid (ESP); September 7, Pretoria (RSA)

CSIR International Convention Centre shares waste management knowledge with Tshwane School

The CSIR International Convention Centre (CSIR ICC) has identified Nellmapius Primary School in Tshwane as the first school in the ICC's drive to spread knowledge and knowhow of its waste management project throughout the community.

Having successfully implemented environmentally friendly waste management initiatives in-house, the Convention Centre has identified the need to share its waste management knowledge with communities in which it operates.

"Effective waste management and recycling is a vital measure in reducing waste taken to landfills thereby taking care of our environment. Who better to impart such knowledge to than children because once they adopt such a culture we can guarantee a future generation that will take care of its environment", explained Snedz Sidzatane, Facilities Manager at the CSIR ICC.

The CSIR ICC was recognised in the Gauteng Green Events Guidelines handbook as one of Gauteng's conference venues playing a significant role in curbing its negative effect on the environment.

"We have joined hands with the company that collects our recyclable waste, Nampak, to assist Nellmapius Primary School with collecting its recyclable waste. Funds generated from recyclable waste collected at the school will be used to purchase teaching aids needed by the school", said Sneds.

"Recycling is part of the school curriculum and we couldn't be happier that the CSIR ICC has chosen our school to start their community involvement waste management project. Thanks to CSIR ICC and Nampak, we now have bags and boxes to put our separated recyclable waste into", shared the joyful Ms Bathista Athalia, Arts & Culture Teacher at the school.

Community members around the school have also been asked to assist the school by bringing recyclable waste to the school to be collected by Nampak. Local business man Moses Mokase, signed up to be a regular recyclable waste contributor at the school.
