TTA members meeting

The TTA hosted the Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) at its first members meeting of 2013.

The GTA shared a lot of exciting plans and projects for 2013. Members are encouraged to attend these meetings as this open up great opportunities to learn and grow their products.

Copies of the presentations on Gauteng Tourism Statistics, Gauteng Convention Bureau and the GeePee campaign are available from Vanessa on request.

TTA Update

The 2013 TTA AGM is scheduled for the 9 April 2013. All are urged to attend.

Should you wish to become more involved in association activities or represent or serve on one of the association chapters please do participate in the nomination process at the upcoming AGM.

Also note that the TTA financial year runs from 1 March to 28 February which means that our membership renewal invoices will be sent out shortly. We have managed to keep membership fees very affordable however, if it is your intention not to renew your membership for the following year, would you kindly e-mail your resignation to secretary@tshwanetourism.com. Please feel completely free to discuss the reasons for your resignation with us. We value your feedback in order to make future improvements.

2014 Cool Capital Biennale to take place in Tshwane

For any of you familiar with the Venice Biennale the following will be very welcome news...

With the aim of introducing the public to a wealth of art, architecture, urban and graphic design, as well as sculpture creations, the Pretoria Cool Capital Biennale will be running from 23 August to 29 November 2014.

Cool Capital Biennale 2014 is a non-government organisation and citizen-lead initiative to bring about visual, perception and actual change to Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa, and the surrounding metropolitan area of Tshwane.

To become involved, attend the second think tank session and presentation taking place on Wednesday, 6 February.

Registrations open for HICA 2013

Online registration for the 7th annual Hotel Investment Conference Africa (HICA) is now open.

HICA is an established business to business networking platform focused on showcasing Southern Africa as a viable investment destination in the hotel and hospitality sector. HICA is the platform for those seeking investment opportunities and knowledge about operating in the sector especially in the current economic climate.

It is an event which is also dedicated to improving the knowledge-base within the region in terms of building and operating hotel and hospitality facilities.

The conference is convened by the TBCSA and hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN) and the KwaZulu-Natal Tourism Authority (TKZN).

Legislation for comment

The proposed draft Gauteng Liquor Regulations have been published for public comment. Interested stakeholders should submit written comment within 30 days from the date of publication (as from 25 January 2013). Submission may be sent by post to Head of Department, Department of Economic Development, Private Bag X 091, and Johannesburg 2107, or by email to GLBPolicyinput@gauteng.gov.za. The Tourism Bill was tabled in Parliament in November 2012. We request you to submit comments on the bill to tumi@tbcsa.travel by the 12th February 2013. TOMSA levy collecting members, who wish to make a verbal presentation to the cabinet, must do so in a written submission. The submission must be sent to jboltina@parliament.gov.za by the 15th February 2013.

Members news: Art at Smuts House

The Smuts House is hosting and promoting a fine arts display at Smuts House called Art at Smuts House.

These displays will be hosted every 2nd Sunday of the month starting on 10 February 2013. Everyone is welcome.
