Known as Africa's business tourism lekgotla, Meetings Africa is business tourism marketing platform which aims to expose local and international buyers to the range of Services and products in Southern Africa's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conference, Exhibitions) industry. This exhibition is scheduled to take place from 28 February to 1 March 2012 at the Sandton Convention Centre.
The visitor target market is anyone who travels for business or who books business travel as well as organisers of events, conferences, meetings, team incentive trips or teambuilding activities. The Meetings Africa exhibition is the ideal platform to increase market awareness of the city of Tshwane's product offering as well as directly increase business tourism market share for the city's products.
The Tshwane Tourism Association is in the process of coordinating a stand for interested members at the Meetings Africa exhibition. At the end of last year, Lindiwe Kwele resigned as CEO of Johannesburg Tourism Company after heading the city council's destination marketing for three years, and has taken up the position as one of three deputy city managers in the City of Tshwane.
We look forward to welcoming Lindiwe to the City of Tshwane and hope that her experience in destination marketing means that exciting times are in store for tourism in our city.
The TBCSA FNB Tourism Business Index Report compiled by Grant Thornton has been released. The report is based on 119 responses, which are broken up into 79 within the accommodation sector and 40 responses from the other tourism business.
In the 4th quarter of 2011, the TBI registered a performance index of 87,3. This is the highest performance the Index has recorded since the piloting phase in May-July 2010, which included the FIFA 2010 World Cup months. The Industry also performed better in Q4 than expected, as indicated by the expected performance index of 80,7 for the 4th quarter in comparison to the 87,3 actual performance index.
In summary it appears that the Industry had a better Festive Season than anticipated. The accommodation sector recorded an actual performance index of 98,9 in Q4 (indicating very close to normal business levels), in comparison to an actual performance index of 85,7 for the last quarter of 2010.
In contrast to previous editions, the Other Tourism Businesses recorded a lower performance level in the last quarter of 2011 than the accommodation sector, but this performance index was still an improvement on the third quarter's performance levels. The Other Tourism Businesses recorded an actual performance index of 78,3.
Looking forward to the first quarter of 2012, the Industry remains cautious with a more modest expected performance index of 82,2.

The TTA has for the past few years committed to lending a helping hand by way of providing soup to the homeless through the Sunnyside Methodist Church. This has enabled us to feed more than 100 people each week.
A special thank you to all the organisations that took part in this initiative in the past years, We would love to call out on you again this year to help us make a different, you as an organisation can choose in which way you want to get involved. You can either send 40L of soup from your kitchens or alternatively, a donation of R70, towards the purchase of ingredients for the church to make the soup themselves.

The access road linking the Voortrekker Monument Heritage Site and Freedom Park was opened at an official function by President Zuma on 16 December 2011.
The morning's activities started at 07:00 and the official opening of the access road took place at 09:00, after which the guests gathered at the Freedom Park amphitheatre for the rest of the morning's programme. The access road is symbolic in nature and visitors can now experience the reconciliation and broader story of our country's history as it is represented by the two sites. Mrs Amanda de Stadler (Director) and Mr Rudolph Botha (Chairman of the VTM Board of Directors), represented the Monument at the opening ceremony.
The access road between the two sites will be open 364 days a year between 08:00 and 16:00. It will only be closed on Christmas Day. Visitors will pay entrance fees at the respective sites as they are managed by each site individually.
