Blacks Do Sharks!

The TTA recently held an inspiring and celebratory 2017/18 at the CSIR ICC. Not only did members' get an overview of the successes and achievements of the association in 2017/18 but there were also a selection of suppliers to the tourism industry on exhibit and a special guest speaker, Fikile Hlatswayo, author of the best selling travel book Blacks Do Caravan (all in attendance received a copy of the book courtesy of Gauteng Tourism Authority), all the way from KwaZulu-Natal.

Fikile inspired the audience with her infectious energy and her passion for South Africa and it's people. Having set aside her career to take a long extended trip around South Africa with her family, in a caravan, Fikile speaks from the heart and from experience about our beautiful country and wonderful people and reminds us enthusiastically to travel more, even if it is just down the road (We Do Tourism!?!) and to appreciate and get to know each other a little better.

One of the spellbinding stories told by Fikile is how, on a shark diving excursion, her daughter surprised her by jumping from the safety of the diving cage into the water to swim with the sharks - and what is a mother to do but follow her child! Out of the cage and into the water, as promised, here is Fikile's video of how Blacks Do Sharks.

We thank our members Sun Maslow Time Square, Signature Restaurant Brooklyn, Tussen-I-Bome, Mopani Lodge, Mongena Private Game Lodge, Ritsako Game Lodge, The Blades, Zilko Tours & Travel, and Ubuhle Be Narha Tours for hosting travel author Fikile for a memorable weekend in Tshwane!

TTA Attractions & Tour Operator Chapter Meeting feedback

The TTA collaborated their first ever chapter meeting which consisted of The TTA Attraction and Tour Operator Chapter. The meeting was held at the lovely National Zoological Gardens of South Africa where members enjoyed an informative session with presentations from the SAT Shot' Left Campaign by Melanie Leloup and Air BnB Experince by Orianne Gambino.

Both speakers unpacked ways on how tourism businesses can be part of the Sho't Left Campaign and the Airbnb Experience by practically demonstrating how tourism businesses can optimise and take advantage of these free marketing platforms and opportunities in order to attract visitors and tourists in the city and the rest of the country.

Tourism products who wish to be part of the Sho't Left Travel Week campaign can register online.
